Who Are The Type Of Patients We Help?
At Hands On Physiotherapy, we’ve worked with thousands of clients treating neck, back, shoulder, and many other musculoskeletal areas of pain, and helped them avoid resorting to painkillers, injections, or irreversible, and often unnecessary surgery.
Many people find that when they’re in pain, it gets in the way of them doing many things, interferes with their social life, enjoying time with their family, continuing to go to work, and those all-important hobbies that we need and are vital for our health and wellbeing.
For example, if you’re experiencing acute neck and back pain, you’ve probably tried painkillers and anti-inflammatories, which can sometimes make you feel a bit uncomfortable, or maybe you’ve stopped doing the things that you love just because it’s too painful, or you’re finding it increasingly hard to take care of yourself or a loved one.
A recent client of ours who presented with chronic neck and back pain had been dealing with this as her reality for the last seven years. Recent scans revealed a diagnosis of disc degeneration in the neck and back, but the main symptom that was wreaking havoc with her daily life was her chronic headaches that she woke up every morning with for the last seven years.
The impact from this debilitating pain was huge for her and her family, stopping her from functioning throughout the day like she wanted to. She was offered an appointment on the NHS to see an orthopaedic consultant but was then also advised that she would be waiting for close to two years for that initial appointment to come through.
This led her to start some physiotherapy with us here at Hands On Physiotherapy. After identifying her key points of pain and what hindered her the most, we started to work on mobilising the neck and releasing some of the muscle tissue around the neck area and the upper back, in turn releasing some of the trigger points that were causing her headaches and the intense feeling of fatigue.
After the first treatment, she noticed that for the first time in seven years, she woke for the next three days without any headaches at all, which was a huge relief to her and her family. The more treatments that we continued with, she found that we started to make real significant changes for her and her family’s life.
Family and friends have noticed that she’s holding herself differently and more confidently. Activities of daily life are easy to perform and cause less anxiety. For example, she can go shopping without having to stoop over the trolley due to her nagging headaches.
But the most significant change that she’s noticed is that she’s able to engage in play with her children and not have to worry or be apprehensive about the pain that she’s going to feel. So overall, she feels her quality of life is hugely improved following a course of manual therapy.

What Makes Our Clinic Stand out?
We feel very lucky to have such amazing and motivated clients here on the South Coast, and after various discussions with them, listening to their perspectives, the overwhelming response is that Hands On Physiotherapy is unlike any other clinic they might have attended.
The most notable point that our clients voice is that we get straight to the problem area. We don’t just talk to our clients and prescribe exercises or reassess joint range and muscle function. We thoroughly assess the body both visually and physically, and then get on with treating the source of the pain.
Our approach to physiotherapy is hands-on, and this is the very reason why we call ourselves Hands On Physiotherapy – to let prospective customers know exactly what our approach to treatment will be.
Not only do we identify the cause of the pain, but we also look at the body as a whole and work out if there are any factors which may be contributing to the pain or dysfunction. We focus on the muscular element of the body, which we find is usually the cause of the issue, and often leads to secondary problems and chronic adaptations.
We believe that the treatment, education, and advice you receive from a professional physiotherapist should be a treatment technique that you cannot just find out or do for yourselves at home. We also strongly believe that through muscle management and mobilisation, we can resolve the majority of issues, optimise strength and conditioning, and improve overall muscular skeletal performance.
Additionally, our clients comment that our line of communication is always open, and that their needs are addressed professionally and personally as quickly as possible so that they can return to a pain-free lifestyle.
