Hands On Physiotherapy

Are You Suffering From Migraines or Headaches In Wimborne?

Hands On Therapy is here to help!

Headaches can be really debilitating and affect people’s ability to work or cope with relatively simple daily tasks.

They can also often cause nausea, light sensitivity and specific patterns of pain in the head that people often don’t associate with headaches.

You also might not know that headaches can be helped and managed with the right kind of physiotherapy.

Physiotherapists can actually help with identifying the cause of certain headaches.

One of the types of headaches, often called cervicogenic headaches, can often very quickly and effectively be treated with manual therapy techniques to the neck and surrounding musculature.

Here at Hands On Physiotherapy, we can also provide you with expert advice on other aspects of your life that could be causing your headaches. These include tips on how you can adapt your desk posture and sleeping position.

How Can We Help With Your Headaches?

With chronic headaches such as migraines or cervicogenic headaches, manual therapy techniques can be used around the neck and surrounding areas in order to achieve recovery and allow you to quickly return to your daily life.

Headaches are often caused by issues elsewhere in the body, so it’s essential to evaluate you and your lifestyle as a whole in order to identify the cause of your headaches and treat them effectively.

We work to mobilise the muscle tissue around the neck and upper back area with massage and trigger point release techniques to alleviate headache symptoms.

An Inspiring Client Story

A client of ours who presented with chronic neck and back pain had been dealing with intense headaches as her reality for the last seven years. Recent scans revealed a diagnosis of disc degeneration in the neck and back, but the main symptom that was wreaking havoc with her daily life was her chronic headaches that she woke up every morning with for the last seven years.

The impact from this debilitating pain was huge for her and her family, stopping her from functioning throughout the day like she wanted to. She was offered an appointment on the NHS to see an orthopaedic consultant but was then also advised that she would be waiting for close to two years for that initial appointment to come through.

This led her to start some physiotherapy with us here at Hands On Physiotherapy. After identifying her key points of pain and what hindered her the most, we started to work on mobilising the neck and releasing some of the muscle tissue around the neck area and the upper back, in turn releasing some of the trigger points that were causing her headaches and the intense feeling of fatigue.

After the first treatment, she noticed that for the first time in seven years, she woke for the next three days without any headaches at all, which was a huge relief to her and her family. The more treatments that we continued with, she found that we started to make real significant changes for her and her family’s life.

Family and friends have noticed that she’s holding herself differently and more confidently. Activities of daily life are easy to perform and cause less anxiety. For example, she can go shopping without having to stoop over the trolley due to her nagging headaches.

But the most significant change that she’s noticed is that she’s able to engage in play with her children and not have to worry or be apprehensive about the pain that she’s going to feel. So overall, she feels her quality of life is hugely improved following a course of manual therapy.
